Hamptons Happenings

photo-1Greetings Hamptons MouthPiece Readers....It’s the 2nd Annual HARBORFROST weekend in Sag Harbor, whose ready to get your freeze on for the Polar Bear Plunge? I meet people all the time that say to me you live in the Hamptons full-time and I say of course people live here year-round. What’s not to believe, I remember when I use to only come out on the weekends year-round and dread going back to NYC to live my everyday life. The Hamptons are very quiet in the off-season, but it is charming and peaceful.  As a younger person I would not have been able to appreciate Sag Harbor as a year-round resident, but I can now and it is one of the most beautiful places in the world to live. I get to drive past the ocean everyday and my personal best is driving over the bridge in Sag Harbor, it has the most beautiful sunrise that just takes my breathe away. So you out there that thinks we shrivel away and hibernate in the winter, the Hamptons does not close up after Labor Day..we work, we party, we go out to eat at Restaurants that stay open year-round, we shop, Eli Tahari is open year-round, our kids go to school, BTW we are home to some of the best public schools in NYS. Sag Harbor is one of the most charming towns of which can be enjoyed all year long, take a break if you live in NYC and visit for the day or weekend.
HARBORFROST WEEKEND ACTIVITIES:
Celebration Kicks off on Friday night The Friends of Yard will be hosting a Winter Celebration Party. **Date: Friday, 2/10/12
Time: 7pm-11pm

The Friends of Yard will be hosting a Winter Celebration Party at Page 63 on Main Street. There will be a silent auction, dinner by the bite donated by local restaurants and a DJ playing music. The cost is $25.00 in advance & $30 at the door.

YARD is a vital component of our community because it provides positive activities for Sag Harbor’s youth. However, YARD is mostly funded by municipalities which have cut back their funding due to these tough economic times. Now, more than ever, we rely on the generosity of the community to help keep these critical programs intact. According to Debbie Skinner – director of the YARD program, “There’s no better way to kick-off Harborfrost weekend then to attend our gala and support the children of Sag Harbor.”
YARD is a non-profit organization that provides programs and activities designed to keep our community’s kids active, occupied, and engaged. These programs include YARD’s after school program and the wildly popular summer evening program.

Hamptons MouthPiece…It is Labor Day Weekend in the Hamptons…Well Friends it is here already the last official weekend of summer in the Hamptons…It will be a beautiful sunny day in the Hamptons today…This summer in particular went so quickly, I blinked and I was driving Danielle to college….This has certainly been an exciting summer and an adventurous one to say the least…

We rushed home to beat what was thought to be a hurricane but instead was a very strong Tropical Storm….We were prepared for no electricity….we braced ourselves and waited it out…pleased to say we had minimum damage but most importantly we were alive and well and that is all that is important. Many people were complaining that they did not have electricity for many days but many people in New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont and upstate New York lost their homes and their life savings due to extreme floodings so keeping things in prospective is vitally important. We dropped our oldest daughter off last Saturday to college and it was an exciting time for her and us…I was not sure how I was going to handle the situation once she was all moved in and it was time for us to leave, but I did not feel sad or the need to cry…I felt extreme joy for her because I was just so proud of her accomplishments and all the possibilities that lie ahead for her. I knew at that moment that both Kurt and I had done a great job in raising our daughter and I was comfortable knowing that we were leaving a woman and not a little girl that needed sheltering…

I wanted to highlight a couple of events for this weekend in the Hamptons that might not be on your radar but they are worthy of attending if you have time…

Talk to you soon…Hamptons MouthPiece..”we do the talking for you”

Hamptons MouthPiece…”we do the talking for you” Greetings Friends, are you a member of the United Healthcare Oxford insurance group? If you are, then you may want to continue reading….Our health insurance carrier is Oxford and I received a letter from our carrier informing us that their relationship with EEHA (EAst End Health Alliance) was terminated on July 15, 2011…..I continued reading to find out what does this mean to us. Apparently EEHA and UHO could not come to an agreement and therefore the agreement was ended..According to NYS law there is a 2 month cooling off period which takes us to 9/14…If no agreement has been settled by this time effective September 15, 2011, care for an emergency illness, injury or condition will be treated as in-network care at any hospital. However, you may be transferred to an in-network hospital once your condition stabilizes. If you choose to stay at one of the EEHA facilities which include (Southampton Hospital, Eastern LI Hospital in Riverhead and Peconic Bay Medical Center) you will incur out-of-network cost and if you do not have out-of-network coverage you will be denied treatment. It is important that you speak with your carrier to discuss how this will affect you…I remember a couple of years ago this happened with Oxford and the EEHA and thank goodness it was settled…last year the same issues occurred with Blue Cross/Blueshield and in the final hours it was settled. Lets just hope that we are so lucky, because friends if this agreement is not settled this could be a nightmare for those of us with this healthcare carrier. It could mean having to drive nearly 50 miles if you need x-rays done, or simple procedures, mammograms and etc…

I am crossing my fingers and hoping and praying for a good outcome….as  always Hamptons Mouthpiece, we do the talking for you…’til next time….have a great week…

Hamptons Mouthpiece….We do the talking for you.…It’s JULY and that means IT’S BIRTHDAY TIME!!! Today is my Hubby Kurt’s birthday and we are doing what he likes to do, something quiet and small, that is the Cancer in him….Me however IT’S MY BIRTHDAY AND I’LL PARTY IF I WANT TO…..I just love birthday’s and typically I am the one who plans all birthday celebrations for my friends…I personally feel that You are deserving to celebrate your 1 special day of the year …the day you were born…..
My goal always is to promote year-round businesses because after the hoopla of the summer months….the crowd dies down and many businesses struggle to stay in business. Then the cycle begins gearing up to be ready again for Memorial Day weekend. Some survive and many do not….lets hope that BeachHouse will make it…..

This year the restaurant selected was “Beachhouse” in East Hampton…This restaurant was chosen for many reasons: SPACIOUS*LOCATION*GOOD FOOD*ATMOSPHERE*FUN

This is a fun place….the acoustics are not overwhelming, they have a DJ in the evening and this place is just great fun….

This year I am celebrating with my good friend Laura Mackey because our birthday’s are 1 day apart…..
Date: Friday 7/29…7-10pm*****Cash Bar****Between Laura and I we have many great friends and we look forward to having an awesome time with all of our friends…. Vanessa & Laura’s Birthday Celebration

Hope to see you there! T’il next time Hamptons Mouthpiece “we do the talking for You” stay tuned for my next series of articles this week…
