Amagansett, NY 2013….Hamptons Eats…follow me on Facebook and Twitter

Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece readers I had Another Great Meal in the Hamptons. Last week Dani and I visited Sotto Sopra on Main Street in Amagansett, NY. I visted the restaurant last year with my friend and we loved it, but this year my experience was so much better. When we walked in we were greeted by Rob Giglio who is the manager and he was so welcoming, it was not over the top, it was relaxed, engaging and warm. I have to say I had such a wonderful dining experience, and I can’t wait to return. The food was delicious and the service was great. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu items with a specialty in pairing wines to your meal.DSC_1685

Dani and I chose to sit outside because it was a beautiful summer evening and I just love the outdoor seating area, we started with the most  delectable Flat bread , we were immediately excited for the rest of the meal, we anticipated everything else being just as enjoyable.

Our waiter  suggested we start with Ribiola Crostini, with grilled figs, spiced walnut & orange vinaigrette & Prosciutto…this dish was delightful, and full of various taste that were palatable. The plate was colorful and pleasing to the eye. The flavors blended together and we just wanted more. A perfect choice from our awesome waiter.

In addition to the Robiola Cristinini appetizer we also had the Seafood Bouquet which included: Shrimp, Crabmeat & Lobster , this plate was served chilled and it was a perfect choice for a warm summer evening. It was light and delightful. DSC_1694

Rob, recommended  a delightful Chateau Montaud Rose from Provence, it was a perfect choice. This Rose exhibited fruity and floral notes, it had a freshness with good acidity and good structure in the mouth. Married nicely with our dining selections.

For our entrée, we went with two dishes. We had the Local Montauk Stripe Bass seared with local fresh baby potatoes & asparagus, drizzled with a sherry reduction & topped with a pineapple Mango salsa.  The blending of the entire taste palate hit our taste buds all at once. I usually do not like sweet with salty, but this was delectable. I will say that this is a meal that you really must have all elements in each bite to fully appreciate this dish. If you select to eat each item separately you will miss the overall experience of the blending flavors and how they compliment each other. *I would like to note that the portion on this plate looks small because Dani and I shared the dish.DSC_1698

I am ashamed to say that I was flying high from the previous dishes that I failed to write the exact name of the steak dish….Although I rarely eat red meat, I tasted this dish and this meat was perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, tender and the juices were heavenly. Dani could eat a cow so she was very happy. A definite thumbs up…DSC_1706

One would think after all that food we would need to be rolled to the car like Humpty Dumpty but how could we complete our dining experience without dessert. We were really full and could not finish the steak meal, so we asked for a doggy bag  so we could make room for the 21 Layer Crepe Cake with Seasonal Compote. Dani did eat this by herself, if you are lactose intolerant like I am you may want to go with another choice.DSC_1703

I was full and selected a lighter dessert, I went with a Sorbet served with Limoncello, wow, I poured the limoncello into the sorbet, REALLY NICE…DSC_1705

Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Sotto Sopra in Amagansett. The executive Chef Josh Savi showed his mastery to blend all the flavors together. If you decide to dine at Sotto Sopra mention Hamptons Mouthpiece sent you, and please share your experience with me. This was Another great meal in the Hamptons!DSC_1713DSC_1714 DSC_1712

What is new in Sag Harbor 2013? Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece readers…wow it is hard to believe that in 24 more days the start of the 2013 summer season will officially begin and the energy will become electrifying here in the Hamptons. Did you know that Sag Harbor village was home to over 20 places to eat? I do believe Sag Harbor has the most restaurants on Main Street than any other town in the Hamptons.

Sag Harbor lost two favorite restaurants at the end of 2012 PHAO and Paradise, but they gained 2 NEW Restaurants this year…Madison & Main and The Cuddy both are located on Main Street.

outside bldgMADISON & MAIN is owned by Chef Eric Miller and Michael Gluckman…Madison and Main Restaurant is located on Sag Harbor’s Main St, formerly the Paradise Cafe. Madison and Main’s co-owners, Michael Gluckman, notorious Hamptons restauranteur and Eric Miller of Food & Co. are a fantastic dynamic duo for this Hamptons hotspot- a classic American Style Cuisine Restaurant and Bar Service with on and off-premise catering. One of my friends who had a wedding in Sag Harbor, availed the off-premise catering services of Madison and Main. She was all smiles when she described the catering services and the food quality. While describing the event she mentioned how the restaurant used refrigerated vehicles to transport food supplies (that looked very fresh) to the event venue. Chilled vehicle hire seem to have become necessary for catering supply industries in the US and around the world, which is especially good for these guys, as they can keep their food looking and tasting as good.

Let us now talk about the on-premise catering. I love the look and vibe to this restaurant, the doors in the front open up and the bar scene reminds me of the Bobby Vans look in Bridgehampton. On those warm summer nights, if you get there early you can sit outside and enjoy a cool summer breeze. The signature drink for the summer is the Watermelon Martini and I really loved the crab cakes, so delicious.

Lunch is served starting at 1130am Monday-Sunday, try the Shrimp BLT, it’s delicious. M-F 5-7pm is Happy Hour with $5 beer, wine, Watermelon Martini’s and appetizers. I really like the Watermelon Martini’s, a perfect choice for a warm summer evening.

THE CUDDY.…Formally known as PHAO…same executive staff Jeffrey Resnick, Tora & Jesse Matsuoka..I had an opportunity to sit and talk with Jesse the day before they opened in Early April to chat with him about why they decided to close Phao and re-open with an American Cuisine. I asked Jesse what will make Cuddy different than restaurants in Sag Harbor and he indicated Quality*Value* and Consistency. Many restaurants in the Hamptons focus only on the summer season but Cuddy is interested in focusing on the year-round customer.

The restaurant will be open year-round serving a Rustic American cuisine. Phao was a product that people enjoyed but did not necessarily love it. The Cuddy has a Rustic American theme which is home-cooked food you would not necessarily cook at home, not because you can’t but it might be to timing consuming to prepare. Gil Chico is the executive Chef who is also the executive chef at Sen and has been with the company for 3 years. The Beverage Director is Derrick Neilsen who has been with the company for 5-6 years. I am excited that Cuddy will be bringing some exciting new food events to Sag Harbor, like wine pairing dinners.

Cuddy has indicated that they are handing over their entertainment hat to others in the area and are looking to only focus on the food, starting with dinner first then gradually introducing Lunch and during the summer season Breakfast. There will be late night Bar Scene…I have not eaten at The Cuddy yet but I am looking forward to having the burger and the Lobster Roll I hear they are amazing. Lets see if they will make my list for best burger and Lobster roll in the Hamptons this year.

These two restaurants have been very busy since they both opened with a full house each night, so make sure you make your reservations early. Madison & Main is bringing the fun back to Sag Harbor with they’re Happening Bar scene, so do not be surprised if it is hard to get a seat at the bar.

If you find you cannot get a seat for dinner at these two places, there are so many really good restaurants in town, Page, American Hotel, Muse, LT Burger, Dockside, The Beacon, Sen, The Corner Bar, B’ Smith’s, Il Capuccino, Tutto Il Giorno

Looking forward to seeing you in the Harbor this summer…There are some new store openings in town, so take a walk down Main Street and check them out. Through hearing stories from passers-by and by browsing through any information that we could find, these stores sound like they have the potential to be a success. I even heard that some of them are thinking about including a self-service retail kiosk to help enhance the customer experience. Not only does it allow you to return any items that you have purchased, but it allows you to skip the queues and to get your returns done sooner. Now that sounds great, and I personally think that all stores should start doing this. But for now, we just can’t wait to see what these stores are like, they may not even need them for all we know. Also, Black Swan Antiques has just opened a new location in Sag Harbor…

It is Back…The 11th Annual Hamptons Restaurant week 2013…Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece readers are you a FOODIE? If you are you must visit the Hamptons for the 11th Annual Restaurant Week… There are some really good restaurants participating this year, and some that I am anxious to try like Bell & Anchor in Sag Harbor. If you are visiting the Hamptons why not stay the weekend and take a wine tour in the Northfork or Southfork.. shop Main Street at some of the beautiful stores in each town or visit the outlets at Tanger in Riverhead. You can visit the new Parrish Museum in WaterMill, Guild Hall in East Hampton, Baystreet Theatre in Sag Harbor, new Bowling Alley in Riverhead and lots more to do, check out the calendar of events to plan your weekend.

Hamptons: New restaurants in the Hamptons this summer 2011

Zagat has posted the new restaurants in the Hamptons this summer..

Our Long Island 2011/12 Restaurants Survey just rolled out, pointing you toward all the culinary hot spots on the island. But let’s get a little more specific for a minute – everyone who has their Jitney tickets booked wants to know what’s up in the Hamptons. Opening a new restaurant is always an enticing business project. However, there is a lot to think about during those early stages prior to the first customers sitting down to place an order. There are menus to compile and design using online printing companies such as MyCreativeShop, budgets to set, and staff to source. Being a restaurateur is certainly not for the faint-hearted. With this in mind, supporting your local eateries is crucial. Here’s a rundown of eight just-open or soon-to-open new eateries – because even though you’re going to spend most of the weekend on the beach, you still gotta eat.

The Almond: After 10 years, this popular French bistro has moved to a new and cheerier space on the main street of Bridgehampton. The former space was essentially a dingy shack, so the move to the property that formerly housed One Ocean is definitely a step up. As for the shack? It’s being converted to a Mexican sports bar dubbed Agave. Save that one for when you need to medicate sunburn with shots of tequila (1 Ocean Rd.; 631-537-5665). Those looking for sports bars and other restaurants with entertainment amenities such as live music may enjoy checking out Katy Vibes next time they’re in Texas.

Beachhouse: Michael Gluckman, the same guy who owns the Boathouse in East Hampton, has converted Jean Luc Kleefield’s old Prime 103 space into a modern steakhouse that’s serving choice chops with a variety of sauces. You can also enjoy a selection of shellfish and lobsters from the local waters – why not do so alfresco-style on the restaurant’s wisteria-covered patio (103 Montauk Hwy; 631-604-5600)?

East Hamptons Grill: After 20 years in business, Jerry Della Femina has sold his upscale restaurant across from Nick & Toni’s to the Hillstone group, which operates restaurants around the country like Houston’s and Palm Beach Grill. The turnaround time here may be an issue – the old eatery just closed, and the new owners are trying to do a rapid transition for Memorial Day. Before you head over, call to confirm it’s open (99 N. Main St.; 631-329-6666).

Little Red: David Loewenberg and Kirk Basnight, owners of the popular Red Bar Brasserie, are set to open this more casual cafe in Southampton. This one is close to the movie theater, so you can make it a second stop if you happen to hit a rainy day on your vacay. The menu is low-key and varied – expect everything from burgers to steak. Look for an opening date in mid-June (79 Jobs Ln.; 631-283-3309).

Nobu at the Beach: Yep, that Nobu. The famed Japanese restaurant is expected to open a branch in the Capri Hotel on the West End of Southampton, in the same space that has been occupied by the Pink Elephant. Well-heeled diners will be able to enjoy the same upscale sushi that has impressed Manhattan diners for decades, but take note: this one might not be ready for Memorial Day. The deal hasn’t been signed yet, so hope for an opening sometime this summer (281 Country Rd. 39A).

Tutto Il Giorno: Maurizio Marfoglia’s popular celebrity hangout will open a second branch in Southampton. The sister restaurant will be more spacious than its Sag Harbor sibling and dish out a bigger Italian menu – nice, since the original eatery didn’t exactly have a ton of of elbow room. And talk about fashionable, Donna Karan‘s daughter, Gabby, is still a partner (56 Nugent St.).

Southampton Social Club: This American restaurant is from Ian Duke, who you may remember from last year’s Madame Tong’s Redux, his attempt at an Asian restaurant in this space. This year’s reboot finds Matt Creason in the kitchen, straight from the York Grill on the UES. Opening Memorial Day weekend, the eatery is super close to the Southampton train station, so make a beeline here and stuff your face from a seafood tower as soon as you arrive (256 Elm St.; 631-287-1400).

Spring Close: Located in the space that housed The Laundry‘s last incarnation (that restaurant was serving in one form or another for over 30 years), this East Hampton restaurant is run by local guy Colin Keilor. Look for American fare that can be enjoyed in a sprawling space, with a back patio for alfresco dining (341 Pantigo Rd.; 631-324-3444).

I am going to be checking out the Social Club in Southampton and Nobu at the newly Revised Capri….
