Collective Identity Exhibit opening on July 11th in Sag Harbor @ The Eastville Community Historical Society.

Greg Therriault bought a home called the Ivy Cottage in 1978 found portraits on tintypes in a space between two floorboards. Tintypes are small iron-coated photographs exposed on a camera’s film plate. They were common during the late 1800s. Greg recently decided to donate the tintypes to the Eastville Community Historical Society in Sag Harbor. Along with the tintypes and other albums that over time had also been found in homes nearby, project photo editor and Sag Harbor native DonnaMarie Barnes along with the committee at the Eastville Historical Society decided to bring this exhibit to the community to share these amazing images.

DonnaMarie Barnes says the power of an image sheds light on valuable historic records.

The Historical Society has been able to identify one of the men and hopes to soon be able to identify the other. One man is Nathan J. Cuffee, the first Native American author to be published on Long Island.

Photographed images will be on display over the summer in an exhibition called Collective Identity: Early Portraits of Eastville.

There are no coinstidences in life and Greg was supposed to find those images… I am so happy that he chose to share them and now we all get to have a glimpse into the past through these images to be shared at the COLLECTIVE IDENTITY reception to be held July 11th – October 10th 2015

June 24 , 2015 (Sag Harbor, NY) – Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the full cast for the premiere concert reading of the first act of DreamWorks Theatricals new stage adaptation of The Prince of Egypt. This reading is part of Bay Street Theater’s 24th Annual Summer Gala which will take place in Sag Harbor at the Long Wharf on July 11, 2015 to benefit Bay Street’s educational and theatrical programs. The Prince of Egypt features book by Philip LaZebnik (writer of Mulan, Pocahontas) and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (composer of Wicked, Pippin, Godspell); both authors will be attending the Gala. Bay Street’s Artistic Director Scott Schwartz will direct the reading, Dominic Amendum is Musical Director, and casting is by Stewart/Whitley.

The special concert reading will feature Broadway and film stars, as well as local talent, including Matthew James Thomas (Pippin, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark) as Moses, Aaron Lazar (The Wolf of Wall Street, This Is Where I Leave You, J. Edgar) as Ramses, Tony Award winner Patina Miller (Pippin, Sister Act, Madam Secretary) as Tzipporah, Norm Lewis (Scandal, Porgy and Bess, Phantom of the Opera) as Jethro, Stephen Bogardus (West Side Story, Les Miserables, Man of La Mancha) as Seti, Julia Murney (Wicked, 30 Rock, The Wild Party) as Queen Tuya, Kyle Barisich (Phantom of the Opera, The Following) as Aaron, John Treacy Egan (Jekyll & Hyde, The Producers, Nice Work If You Can Get It) as Hoy, Ryan Knowles (We Will Rock You!, NEWSical: the Musical, Radio City Christmas Spectacular) as Hotep, Joanna Howard (Peter and The Starcatcher, National tour of Les Miserables) as Nefertari, Julia Motyka (Travesties, Richard III) as Miriam, and Anna Schiavoni as Young Miriam.

Along with the thrilling principal cast there will be a large chorus of local performers led by Choir Master Greg Wilson. The Honorable Timothy Bishop As a representative for New York’s 1st congressional district, Bishop served most of central and eastern Suffolk County and secured more than $150 million for projects within his district. He was widely viewed as one of the Congress’ strongest advocates for access and affordability for students pursuing Higher Education. Prior to serving in the United States Congress from 2003-2015, Bishop was an administrator at Southampton College of LIU for 29 years, the last 16 of which he spent as Provost. Recently named distinguished professor of Civic Engagement and Public Service at St. Joseph’s College, he resides in Southampton with his wife Kathy. The couple has two daughters, Molly and Meghan, and a grandson, Nathan.

Joe Pintauro is a noted playwright, poet, and novelist. His play Men’s Lives was the inaugural production of Bay Street Theater. His novels are Cold Hands and State of Grace. Joe is a recipient of the John Steinbeck Writers Award and the Guild Hall Lifetime Achievement Award for the Literary Arts. He is currently working on a third novel and just completed a new play.

The evening begins with the premiere concert reading of the first act of The Prince of Egypt, and then continues in the tent on the Long Wharf with dinner prepared by Sterling Affair, and party with live and silent auctions, with celebrity auctioneer Richard Kind. VIP tables begin at $10,000, with VIP tickets at $1,200. A limited number of general admission tickets are available for $600; $425 for Young Professionals 40 and under.

Items in this year’s live and silent auctions will be managed by 501 Auctions which includes mobile bidding. Items include: a week at the beach on St. Bart’s at a luxury WIMCO villa with unparalleled concierge service and complimentary provisioning; play 18 holes of golf for two with Richard Kind at The Bridge; a cocktail party at your home catered by Sterling Affair; dinner and two tickets to the hottest new musical on Broadway, Hamilton and so much more!

So many people have asked me what is the deal with Doppio in Sag Harbor, are they reopening….That is the MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION! WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH DOPPIO…Nothing, zip..has been taking place in that location……I say BRING BACK MADISON & MAIN! I had the most fun in 2013…Last year 2014 Back Page & Back Harlow were fun, but not as much fun as Madison & Main…The Watermelon Martini’s were the absolute BEST…the bartenders were fun! Sasha my favorite(bartender) worked at Doppio but not even he could save it. I do think Back Harlow will be a place I might choose to hang out at, but only if the drinks are affordable. I like the management team and I am told they will be doing some really fun things this summer.

It is confirmed Plaza Sports is opening in Sag Harbor on Main Street, I spoke with the owner and he stated that he plans on being open year-round. He plans on focusing on the summer then re-assessing for the fall and winter. He stated he would be selling Sag Harbor t-shirts, hmmmm is he not aware that there are 2 other businesses in Sag Harbor selling the same thing. Plaza Sports has locations in Rocky Point and Montauk, hopefully if the item is not carried in the Sag Harbor location, they can have it sent from another location. They should be open before May.

Harbor Market update….things are moving along well and progressively and they should be open in a couple of weeks….I do hope before May, looking forward to that brick oven pizza.

POTHOLES: Looks like Many of the towns are just putting a band-aid on the situation and filling in the holes…but East Hampton is still the worst, so be careful driving at night because there are some serious potholes that could just do damage to your car.

Rumor has it that WHITES APOTHECARY is opening a second location in Southampton, hmmm will it just be the cosmetic part of the business or will this be competition for Southrifty Drug Southampton?

Saaz Indian Cuisine in Southampton delivers…for $10 you can have Indian Food delivered to you…$20 for East Hampton Residents and unfortunately East Hampton they are only making 2 delivery runs per day. M-Sun 7pm and 930pm…If business starts to generate and they are getting more deliveries, then the cost of the delivery might decrease. Sorry Montauk no plans to deliver, too far. I love this place M-Sun “All you can Eat” buffet is fantastic and different items everyday.
Happy Hour 1/2 price drinks Sun-Thursday 4-6pm…. Did someone say GIRLS NIGHT OUT! OH YEAH…..

EAST HAMPTON: East Hampton Town officials are abandoning plans to impose a summer weekend ban on all helicopters this summer in the Hamptons, a very busy tourism season, citing concerns about aircraft being diverted to neighboring towns. Hmmm…Is that the real reason……Well at least they have enforced some curfews during the week. I am sure the organizers for the numerous celebrity-filled events this summer in the Hamptons are grateful…I wonder were they scratching their heads trying to figure out how they were getting their A-listers to their events this summer……I guess the thought of being stuck in traffic for hours was not a draw.

A new restaurant opening in Montauk …Harbor in Montauk….owners James “Jamo” Willis and business partner Robert Hirsh. 3,200 square-foot revamped eatery on West Lake Drive will have that familiar Hamptons feel — a laid-back beach-bar vibe during the day that gives way to dancing at night. I am sure the residents in Montauk are very excited about this opening…. maybe…some skinny dipping…LOL…just kidding

Rumor has it that Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Spa is making some changes and going very high end….Targeting a high-end demographic….they have dropped their timeshare model. Will the middle-class be able to afford a Day at Gurney’s? There are so many new things happening in the Hamptons…much has been in the news already, but then there are the lingering rumors that have been circulating and little birdies have shed some light on those rumors that seem to plague small towns.

SAG HARBOR

Harbor Market in Sag Harbor…I was originally told they were planning on opening in late February. I stopped by last week and I see that progress is moving quickly on the total rebuild inside and it looks beautiful. There are some issues that need to be resolved with the village and the neighbors, so unfortunately it looks more like an April opening. I can wait they will have artisan brick oven pizza….yummy…(.hint…hint butternut squash with pancetta and fresh mozzarella)

Doppio Sag Harbor….I have asked repeatedly are they re-opening in Sag Harbor and my source assures me they are coming back. It has been rumored that they have not received approval for a brick oven or outdoor seating. I am anxious to see what happens with them this summer. I was really hoping when they took over they would maintain the Madison & Main crowd, but sadly that did not happen.
Ideal Stationary.….after years on Main Street, owners have decided to retire and close up the store. Since they own the property they will leasing and it has been rumored that Henry Lehr will be moving into that spot. Henry Lehr currently has a location on Newtown Lane in East Hampton, are they closing that location or opening up a second location in Sag Harbor. I called to get a response but I was told “no response”….hmmmm it is a wait and see for now…..
The vacant space that once occupied the Village Cleaners 3 years ago….has been cleared out and I was told today that a new business is moving in April 1st 2015. It has been rumored that Shoe-Inn might be opening up a spot in Sag Harbor Village, I called to get some information from Shoe-Inn corporate and I was told we “have no comment”…hmmm is that a YES….Guess I will have to wait until April 1st to see who’s moving in.
Pepalajefa the gourmet take-out has closed their doors for good and that space is available for rent. Does this surprise anyone that they are closing? The name was complicated to pronounce and the food was over the top expensive.
Harlow in the Harbor: Contrary to the rumors being spread, they will be re-opening this Spring and “Back Harlow” will be back with some great bands. Looking forward to seeing what is on the menu this summer. I enjoyed “Back Harlow very much last year, entertaining and FUN, just what was lacking in the Harbor. I wonder who’s in the line-up for entertainment this summer

Looks like the Sag Harbor Pharmacy might be getting some competition in the area soon, more info to come on that soon….

Provisions:will be sporting a new look this season….They have been under renovation since the 14th of March and will be re-opening on March 25th. Can’t wait to see the new look.

East Hampton Bowling Alley will be Become a Retail Space

Word on the street is that the new tenant in the former Georgica space is Bridgehampton Italian stalwart Osteria Salina.

MONTAUK:
Scarpetta, will be opening in Montauk, Long Island this summer, according to Eater. LDV Hospitality will be taking over the restaurant located at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk.
