Welcome to Sag Harbor to air on Oprah Network (OWN) on January 25th 2015….
Sag Harbor is one of my favorite places in the Country and I am blessed to live here year-round. I was introduced to Sag Harbor 25 years ago and 13 years ago my family moved here full-time. My husband and I have raised our 2 girls here, one is graduating from college in May 2015 and the other will be graduating from high school in 2017. We have amazing friends from all ethnic groups and we are well-respected in the community. I am active in the school district and many people who live here both full-time and part-time are loyal followers of Hamptons Mouthpiece. I can recall when I first came to the Hamptons, I could not believe how many black people had second homes in the Hamptons. I was a girl raised in Harlem and I knew very few people who had a home, let alone 2, it was mind-blowing and motivating for me. My husband’s mother lived in Sag Harbor and we would visit with her often but we only saw an influx of African Americans in the summer months. Many of these families retreat to Sag Harbor for the summer months only in the areas called Azurest, Sag Harbor Hills and Ninevah Beach.DSC_1442

Welcome to Sag Harbor…takes an unprecedented look inside one of America’s most exclusive and historically significant African-American beach communities, featuring its current homeowners, including popular restaurateur and lifestyle pioneer, B. Smith. Located in the heart of New York’s The Hamptons, this tight knit enclave was established as a refuge from racism in the early 20th century.

DSC_1203With the recent housing boom, this once all African-American neighborhood is now fighting to hold on to its identity. Real estate prices throughout the three bay front areas of Azurest, Ninevah Beach and Sag Harbor Hills have recently skyrocketed. This seemingly positive economic reality is forcing the younger generations, now inheriting these cottages from their parents and grandparents, to face a vexing dilemma: To sell or not to sell? Sag Harbor profiles a community at a crossroads, but also one that truly values celebrating life, family and tradition.

Tune in for the hour-long special on Sunday, January 25 at 10/9c.

Beautiful View, BBQ and Live Music in Sag Harbor

Things are spicing up this summer in Sag Harbor….Everyone can agree that Harlow East…formally known as B’Smith’s Restaurant has the best location in the Harbor, but did you know that they also have a Back Bar? I remember when B’Smith’s first opened the Back Bar was always opened, but as the years went on and staff was limited, this area was only open for private events. This summer Jon Krasner has decided to do something different. He has turned “The Back Bar” into a very relaxed scene in Sag Harbor. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday the Back Bar has the BBQ for $25 5-10p, on Sunday’s live Music. The scene is relaxed and very different from the front part of Harlow East, both operated and managed by Richard Notar and Notar Hospitality.nhb_7980
Last week Jon invited Hamptons Mouthpiece to stop by to hear the band and taste the BBQ… since the prior week was my birthday and I was very sick and unable to celebrate, I decided to invite some friends to spend an evening listening to some good music and eat some delicious BBQ. What a great time we had. nhb_8004

Back Bar tells me that they will have live music every Sunday…this Sunday come listen to Reggae Lution who will be there again this Sunday, August 10th 7-11pm, If you like Reggae brings some friends and stop by for an afternoon of fun. The vibe is positive, because Reggae music is Happy Music, the BBQ is good and this Sunday the beer is $5 and on the menu: Jerk Cornish Hens, Corn fritters, and Carribean Cole Slaw ;).nhb_8011

Sag Harbor BOE and Budget Vote…2014

Mary Anne Miller has decided to not seek re-election as Board Member to the Sag Harbor School District, she has been an amazing Mouthpiece to our community for many years and she will be missed, but I am confident she will continue to be involved in fighting for the best interest of the children, the school district and the community.

There are 3 seats open on the BOE and 4 candidates eying those seats. Thomas Re and Diana Warnock Kolhoff are new comers, Sandi Kruel and current Board President Theresa Samot are seeking re-election for another term.

This year I have decided to endorse the following candidates because they are the BEST choices…

  • Diana Warnock Kolhoff
  • Sandi Kruel
  • Theresa Samotphoto 1

You can read more about these candidates from an article written in the Sag Harbor Express…[button color=”yellow” link=”http://sagharboronline.com/sagharborexpress/page-1/meet-the-candidates-four-hopefuls-for-the-sag-harbor-school-board-30128″ font=”tahoma” align=”right”]CLICK HERE:[/button]
