LIRR

Starting Memorial Day weekend May 24, 2013 and blast off again every week through the Labor Day weekend  the LIRR will add a new non-stop Cannonball train from Penn Station to West Hampton in 94 minutes and make stops in Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, and Montauk . New Yorkers looking for the fastest and most direct way to the Hamptons on summer Friday afternoons will find their dream ride leaving Penn Station aboard the Long Island Rail Road’s re-launched ‘Cannonball’ train, which will depart from Manhattan for the first time in LIRR history.

That’s a one-seat, $27 ride from Midtown to Montauk with the reserved seating available for an extra charge – a reserved seat and wait staff to pamper you – for an extra charge.

The Cannonball will depart every Friday from Penn Station at 4:07 PM as a peak train, arriving in Westhampton by 5:41 PM, covering 76 miles in just one hour and 34 minutes. Then on Sunday evenings, the LIRR also will introduce the Cannonball (West), bringing customers back from Montauk to Penn Station, including a nonstop run from Westhampton to Jamaica and then on to Penn.

The new service is set to launch on Friday, May 24th, so for those of you who have long asked for a one-seat ride from Penn Station to the Hamptons and they have listened.  This move eliminates the need to change trains with baggage at Jamaica.”

On Sundays, the LIRR will introduce return Cannonball (West) service, leaving Montauk at 6:37 PM, East Hampton at 7:01 PM, Bridgehampton at 7:10 PM, Southampton at 7:20 PM, Hampton Bays at 7:31 PM and Westhampton at 7:39 PM. The train will then run express to Jamaica, arriving at 9:09 PM and complete its journey at Penn Station, arriving at 9:31 PM. Customers also will be able to reserve seats for an extra fee on the westbound Cannonball via the Hamptons Reserve service.

Customers are urged to consider buying roundtrip reserved tickets to ensure a seat on this popular train. To help achieve an on-time departure, Cannonball customers also are urged to arrive early at Penn Station and give themselves extra time to board. The LIRR reserves the right to restrict the number of standees on the Cannonball trains in order to maintain safety standards. Luggage also must be placed properly under seats or on overhead racks to avoid blocking doors, aisles and exits.

Customers can find new Montauk timetables at terminals and at stations along the branch as well as the MTA website www.mta.info/lirr or by calling 511, the New York State Travel Information Line and saying “LIRR” If you are deaf or hard of hearing, use your preferred relay service provider on the free 711 relay to reach the LIRR at 511.

Sag Harbor BOE and Budget Vote…2014

Mary Anne Miller has decided to not seek re-election as Board Member to the Sag Harbor School District, she has been an amazing Mouthpiece to our community for many years and she will be missed, but I am confident she will continue to be involved in fighting for the best interest of the children, the school district and the community.

There are 3 seats open on the BOE and 4 candidates eying those seats. Thomas Re and Diana Warnock Kolhoff are new comers, Sandi Kruel and current Board President Theresa Samot are seeking re-election for another term.

Chase Edwards…F i n e  A r t

DSC_4978A prominent Long Island-raised gallery owner is returning to her roots in the Hamlet of Bridgehampton, New York,  under the name Chase Edwards Fine Art Galleries. Bonnie Elizabeth Edwards has returned to the area after a successful west coast career including galleries in Laguna Beach, CA, Palm Desert, CA, Maui HI, Nantucket MA., Sante Fe, NM., and Oyster Bay, NY.  Bonnie’s clients include luminaries in the art, entertainment and business world.  From paintings to sculptures to functional pieces, and photography, the gallery will present works of established and emerging new talents in the world of contemporary art. According to Bonnie, Bridgehampton is ideal for galleries. “The historic charm surrounded by the immense natural beauty of the ocean and the bay, easily accessible to a large advanced art community base, is an attractive environment for galleries.” The store hours will be 11am-7pm daily. Evening hours for strollers and events are in the works for the busy season.DSC_4980 (1)

2463 Main Street, Bridgehampton, located next door to Blow Hamptons…I have been told that you will see some of Chase Edwards art pieces in Blow Hamptons as well.

Bonnie says “I am very excited about this new journey and committed to presenting pieces that are powerful, passionate and uplifting.  I am also determined to attract more galleries and artists to the area, making it a thriving destination for art in the community and the surrounding areas.” We wish you success in your new place Bonnie.

Hamptons Eats: Hey there my Foodie Fans….Sag Harbor Food News Chatter..2014

As many of you are already aware Espresso has closed its doors for good what you did not know is the new owner is apparently an East Hampton local…Contrary to rumors circulating I am told this will not be a Vegetarian/Vegan cafe so everyone can take a deep breath and calm down. I have been told the new owner plans to open a Market Style with take-out Cafe, Brick-oven pizza, fresh healthy choices…moderate prices….Opening is slated for late April early May after much-needed renovations..

_DSC0270Page 63 rumor has that Chef James Carpentar  is coming to Sag Harbor. Chef Carpentar’s  resume includes East Hampton Point, Cittanova, the Living Room and Dellafeminas…a local celebrity chef…I hear that Page is also expanding with a marketplace of their own. Watch out Provisions you might just be getting some competition in Sag Harbor. Page might just be the talk of the Town this summer? There is a new Aquaponic growing system and grow room had 2 new additions. Over 250 of a variety of salad greens were planted.

Doppio the newcomer that bought last year’s popular Madison & Main Restaurant on Main Street in Sag Harbor looks like they are beginning their renovations. I was told when I visited the Huntington place that they were planning on opening in March; seems like that is not happening this month, maybe May. Madison & Main was incredibly busy last year, lets see if the new-comers can bring back that same vibe, but this year they will have some competition in the Harbor.

The biggest news however is B’Smith in Sag Harbor…It has been rumored that B’Smith’s in Sag Harbor  will not be opening their doors this summer. I remember when B’Smith’s opened in 1997, it was the place to be. African American’s who vacationed in the Hamptons would always choose B’Smith’s as the place to dine out. Dan,Barbara and their Managers have always supported the community and graciously offered their place to host a variety of community events. There is community chatter that a new Management team will be running the show this summer, according to Grub Street Richie Notar will be Opening HARLOW in Sag Harbor, a seafood Cuisine.  Richie Notar, the restaurateur who transitioned from his role as managing partner at Nobu two years ago to helm several new ventures, has taken over the waterfront space and plans to reopen in May as an East End outpost of his Lombardy Hotel restaurant Harlow. It is noted that Notar has also taken over the former Lenox Lounge space, which is rumored to be called Notar Jazz Lounge.

Will this be the Sag Harbor summer place to be? They do  have the BEST location in the Harbor. It is my hope that they will seek to have a relationship with the community and not just focus on the summer crowd.

The Nobu partner is also about to open a jazz club in Harlem.Photo: Patrick McMullan ..

Hey Turto il Giorno fans I have been told that they are opening a new location in Tribeca, I have yet to eat at the Sag Harbor location, this is on my agenda for the Spring. I will share my experience with all of you once I do._DSC0014

Where will you be hanging this summer in the Harbor…I will be at the place that makes the BEST Watermelon Martini’s!!! watermelon-martini

Next week, Restaurant News in East Hampton/Montauk

IN THE KNOW…. Espresso’s in Sag Harbor is closed for Good…I drove past Expresso’s this morning and suddenly felt a sense of loss. Expresso has been a part of the Sag Harbor community for 21 years. A staple in Sag Harbor since 1993, Espresso Italian Market and Grill, has been sold by owners Corrado Paini and Richie Camacho, but the building’s new occupants are yet unknown. Paini and Camacho bought the established store from Robin and Luigi Tagliasacchi in 2005.IMG_2012

Espresso was known for their delicious sandwiches, pastries, and Italian cuisine.cateM2

A popular place for the kids in Sag Harbor to go after school to get snacks, a quick and local dining choice for teachers and a place for parents to go in the morning for a cup of coffee or a quick breakfast after dropping the kids off at school. I moved to Sag Harbor in 2001 and I met some of my very good friends that year. We all had daughters in the same grade and we formed our breakfast club, it started with just coffee at Expresso’s then as our children got older the entire group would meet once a month, but still at Espresso’s. Expresso’s has been an intricate part of my Sag Harbor life since I moved here. There are many wonderful memories that I will never forget. int2-2

It has been rumored that a Vegan/Gluten Free high-end cafe will be replacing the beloved Italian Sandwiches cafe, but this has not been confirmed.  It was mentioned that Iron Chef Bobby Flay was the owner, Bobby Flay is NOT the owner.  I am told that the place will be closed for many weeks to do some much-needed renovations….Whatever they choose to replace Espresso’s with, my only hope is that it is priced where the kids can afford it. Good Food is Good Food and if it is healthy, good and reasonably priced the kids will come.

If you are like me and you love those Italian Sandwiches…Cappelletti restaurant on Noyac Road  in Sag Harbor is an option and they have my favorite sandwich. Share your memories at Espresso’s? What was your favorite sandwich? My favorite was the Avocado, goat cheese & sun-dried toms with fresh alfalfa sprouts (I always substituted the sun-dried tomatoes for bacon)…..
