(Sag Harbor, NY) Getty Gas, The Price is Right!.….Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece readers, there is new ownership at the Getty Station in Sag Harbor and finally competitive gas prices in Sag Harbor. Could my eyes be deceiving me! I could not believe the price of $3.89 at the GETTY Station in Sag Harbor when it appeared on my cell phone, I had to get into my car to drive there to confirm this price. Could it be that Sag Harbor was no longer going to be known as having the most expensive gas in the Hamptons!

I stopped to speak with the new management today and was told that they want to be part of the community and their rates will be competitive with the gas stations in Watermill and Bridgehampton not Harbor Heights on Rte 114. They are currently offering  low introductory prices to draw in the community, now that is smart.

What a welcomed relief to know that I can fill-up in Sag Harbor without having to drive all the way to Bridgehampton or Hess in Watermill going forward. We now need to get Harbor Heights on-board because their rates continue to be out of control and only if you are desperate do you stop there for gas.

Date: 5/16/13

HARBOR HEIGHTS: $4.379

GETTY: $3.899Hamptons Mouthpiece

Thank You Getty, we hope you continue on this path of offering the residents and visitors competitive gas prices in Sag Harbor, welcome to the community. Getty Gas, The Price is Right!

As always Hamptons Mouthpiece keeping you in the know!!!

(Southampton, NY) The Southampton Inn a perfect getaway stay.…Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece Readers, the start of the summer in the Hamptons will be here in less than 12 days and the East End will be filled with people from across the globe vacationing in the Hamptons. Memorial Day symbolizes the beginning of the Summer season, lets just hope we will get the warm weather. This is really up to Mother Nature, she seems to be full of humor lately, teasing us with 80 degree weather one day and the next day it’s freezing with a frost advisory.Flower_with_Inn

I had the pleasure to take a tour of the Southampton Inn a month ago and  although I have been there many times I was unaware of all the amenities that the Inn offers its guests. Unlike many of the other hotels in the Hamptons, the Southampton Inn is a premiere travel destination stay that is centrally located in the heart of Southampton village and walking distance to the one of the Hampton’s Voted best beaches in America, Coopers Beach. The Southampton Inn is located in Southampton Village on the East End of Long Island, New York on five acres of manicured lawns and landscaped gardens. ThisTudor-style Inn is open year round, is a local landmark and the choice hotel for thousands of visitors who travel to the South Fork of Long Island and the Hamptons each year. The Inn welcomes guests looking for a Long Island getaway, a long-awaited vacation in the Hamptons, a romantic weekend, a family gathering or corporate retreat. Unique stores and boutiques, museums, art galleries, quaint and upscale dining and endless entertainment. During the summer, the Inn provides complimentary shuttle service to beautiful Cooper’s Beach. The staff  can coordinate restaurant reservations, fishing trips, surfing lessons, golf tee times, bicycle rentals, tours of local museums, and visits to historic sites and wineries..man-and-woman--riding a bike

The Kids Room is equipped with a Television, DVD player, video games, ping pong table and ice cream. What I liked is the kids room is located next to the outdoor patio. If the kids get bored being in the pool and you are not ready to leave the child/children can go into the kids room and hang out there for a while.  The Southampton Inn welcomes pets too so you don’t have to leave your family pet behind?playroom1

Although my tour was given on a cold day, the beauty of the property was just as beautiful had it been a warm summer day. The landscaping is exquisite and yet relaxing, the outdoor pool patio is furnished with a 50 foot pool that is 3-4 feet deep, an outdoor bar, tennis courts and a garden of which they grow their own herbs and tomatoes. The Outdoor seating is perfect for a cocktail party that is an option, just call the Inn to get available dates and rates. The banquet room is available for rental year-long and what makes it very special is it has its own private entrance.southampton Inn Pool

The Southampton Inn is unlike many Hamptons hotels and Inns, they are open year-round and a staple in the community. During Hurricane Sandy, they opened their doors to misplaced victims and provided them with an opportunity to take showers and have something warm to drink and eat. Many areas in the Hamptons were hit hard by Sandy and many workers were here working 24 hours non-stop, The Southampton Inn provided these workers with a place to stay.Courtyardnight at the Southampton Inn

The Inn offers many services to the Local community as well:

  • Pool & Tennis membership for $2000 for a family of 4.
  • Breakfast & Lunch are served 730am-730pm
  • Lunch can be enjoyed on the lawn
  • meeting rooms
  • Library
  • Banquet Hall
  • Private Parties

lobstersalad @ Oso restaurantOso Restaurant is located within the Inn is open 730am-730pm, serving breakfast & lunch.

One of the amenities that I found interesting is that the Inn allows anyone to “Rent your own Restaurant” perfect if you would like to host an event and bring in your own caterers. Room service is available, you can have it sent to your room or you have a choice to have OSO TOGO and enjoy your meal sitting on the lawn and watching the sunset.

This is a very nice place to stay with a variety of amenities, a perfect arrangement for those not seeking to rent a home. Great for families seeking a weekday stay, weekend get-away or a 1-2 week vacation. Please contact the Hotel for rates and availability www.southamptoninn.com

IMG_1144I love being a mother to Danielle and Allura. I may not have a lot but I have my daughters and they are all I need. They make me laugh and smile and cry. I love the life I live especially because they are in it. A mother’s love really has no bounds..It takes someone really brave to be a mother, someone strong to raise a child and someone special to love someone more than herself.  I have been very blessed to have such amazing women in my life to teach me how to be a mother. My mother Charlotte Cook is one of the strongest women that I know, she has always put her children ahead of her needs and it has not always been easy for her. Although  my father and I are in a good place now, my mother struggled on her own for many years to provide for her children and education was always a primary focus in our home.

I grew up in Harlem and my mother never allowed us to be a product of our environment, she always said you may live in the ghetto but you do not have to be ghetto. Speaking properly was very important to my mother and I can hear the words ringing in my ears as I write them, when you walk through these doors (our apartment) you will speak the Queen’s English and leave that slang where it belongs, in the street.

momMy mother was a smart woman then and still is. She is my rock, a little extreme sometimes, like the time when I came in late, well the next afternoon and brought in Kentucky Fried Chicken, she took my chicken and threw it on the floor and began to stomp it with her foot, all because she felt I disrespected the house because she had cooked. I have to admit I did think the woman was crazy at that time. I think about that time and it makes me laugh now. Whenever I think about my mother it is always with fondness, deep respect, love and admiration. My mother taught me my values, those same values that I have instilled in my children. She is responsible for the person that I am today.

My grandmother is still alive and a woman who has loved me my entire life unconditionally. Her love never came with conditions, she always made me feel beautiful and loved. She is such an inspiration in my life and her energy and spunk, are what give me the courage to feel like I can take on the world and never be afraid of anything or anyone. This is a quality that has been instilled in my daughters, They are told you can do anything and be anyone, never let the color of your skin get in the way of you reaching for the stars. The world is open to you and there for you to take, don’t limit yourself because others don’t believe in you, believe in yourself. There are no limitations only those that you inflict on yourself.

I have so many wonderful friends, too many to name. These are the most remarkable women that I know, everyday they put their needs on hold to tend to the needs of their children. They often times deny themselves from having a time-out because they are doing something for their kids. I learn from these women how to appreciate motherhood with all its ups and downs. Thank you ladies…

bigstock-Mother-And-Child-1213809Motherhood comes in many forms, just because you are not a biological mother, doesn’t mean that you do not understand how to be a mother. My best friend Patricia is a godmother to both of my daughters and I would intrust their lives to her in a second if something were to happen to me. She loves unconditionally, she is a God-mother because God has blessed Kurt and I to have her in their lives. Aunts, Friends, cousins, sisters can all play a tremendous role in a child’s life , my girls are blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support from amazing women who are role-models in their life.

There is a very special woman who will forever have a special place in my heart and that is my Mother-n-law Naomi Leggard. This woman embraced me and immediately welcomed me into her family. I learned how to show affection openly with her. I never grew-up in a home where we consistently expressed our mutual love for each other by saying I love you or hugging each other, it was just a given that we loved one another. When I became part of the Leggard family it was a bit overwhelming in the beginning on how affectionate they were with each other, but it was so genuine and heartfelt it was contagious. How could I expect my children to be comfortable saying I love you if I did not change my behavior. The girls have truly benefited from being comfortable saying I love you, hugging as a sign of affection, and not afraid to touch. These are learned behaviors and ones taught to me by a truly remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many who were blessed to have known her.

Friends, we do not always have the answer to everything involving parenting but what we do have is a support team. It takes a village to raise a child, you do not have to be alone. I guess that is why I love social media so much, I never feel alone. I love to share because if I only touch 1 person then I feel blessed. I hear often people say I don’t do social media and I always ask why. The responses I receive are because they find it invasive, time-consuming and they continue on with a bunch of negative excuses. If you stop and think about how it can be used in a positive way, you might find that you will have an entirely different experience. Facebook has allowed me to continue to grow as a mother and I learn something everyday from my amazing friends. Enjoy this day women who are part of a child’s life, mothers, aunts, sisters, friends, nieces, teachers, grandparents, and this list is endless….Today is a day of celebration for all women who impact the lives of children. Thank you!!!!
