cardinalConclave selects Pope Francis of Argentina…Greetings Hamptons MouthPiece Readers the Conclave has selected the 266th Catholic Pope and what a historic moment in history this has been to witness. You can literally feel the energy through the TV..electrifying..It is simply amazing how the Vatican has embraced technology so that catholics from all over the world can be part of this historic event. Who is Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina, he is 76 years old, the 1st latin American Pope, the 1st Jesuit Pope and the first Pope born outside of Europe since Pope Gregory III in the 8th century 2,711 years ago. Prior to his election, he served as Archbishop of Buenos Aires, since 1998, and as a cardinal, since 2001. As Cardinal, Bergoglio became known for personal humility, doctrinal conservatism and a commitment to social justice. A champion of the poor with a simple lifestyle contributed to his reputation for humility. He lived in a small apartment, and not in the palatial bishop’s residence. He gave up his chauffeured limousine in favor of public transportation, and he reportedly cooked his own meals.

He has chosen the name Pope Francis, he is said to be a saint, many are saying how profound it is that he chose the name Francis.

Pope Francis: Thank you for your warm acceptance…It is a journey of friendship, of love, of trust, and faith. Let us pray always for one another. Let us pray for the whole world. Let us have a big brotherhood.

What is the future of the church, how will Pope Francis use social communication to bring the church into the 21st century and to get the gospel message out to young people? Currently there are 9 Cardinals that have active twitter accounts, is this the way for the church to keep young people involved with the church? Will this pave the way for new funding into the Church, through platforms like Tithe.ly or otherwise? There are many problems in the church, so what will be first on his agenda to discuss as leader of the Catholic Church?

Even if you are not Catholic and I am not, you just cannot help but feeling this burst of excitement ….I have to admit I was a bit surprised that they did not go with someone younger. Pope Benedict was 77 when he was elected and he lasted 8 years, so makes you wonder why they selected someone who may only be an interim Pope. I am not Catholic but from what I have read about Pope Francis he is said to be a Saint and may be the savior of the poor. Will he embrace the idea of women becoming priests? I pray that he addresses the problems of the church, the negativity that has been cast over the church for many years. May God Bless him and guide him on this journey. Please share your thoughts.
