Click here to order your Valentine’s day flowers

Greetings Hamptons MouthPiece Readers...Can you believe that January is over and it is February 2013…it often amazes me on how quickly the days go by. I love February, I guess it’s because I have always loved Valentine’s Day, I love to see couples in love, Red is my favorite color, February is National Heart awareness month, local businesses are busy like flower shops and Restaurants for Valentine’s Day and its Black History Month. Many people continue to think there is nothing to do in the Hamptons in the Winter, but that is not the case. There are many things happening during the month of February…great time to spend a romantic weekend in the Hamptons, nothing better than snuggling on a cold winter day under a heavy blanket nice and cozy, next to the one you love. Many Hamptons Inns have winter specials, reach out to your favorites and book a room, spend Valentine’s Weekend in the Hamptons.

jitneyGreetings Hamptons Mouthpiece readers…Looks like Hampton Jitney has some competition going on in the Northfork. Did you know that a round-trip to NYC from the Northfork is $40, but from the Southfork it is $53.00…Seems a bit unfair to me, but then again everyone in the Hamptons is rich..right? We don’t watch our pennies and we all have money to burn. I guess that is why the gas prices are more expensive and the food as well.

I was a bit perturbed when I picked up the Hampton Jitney bus in Manorville and my round-trip was the same cost as if I boarded from Montauk, seems ridiculous wouldn’t you say. A woman sitting next to me on the bus told me about another bus service in the Riverhead area..BOLT BUS. Have you heard of them, they are the bus that sometimes has offers for $2 seats.bolt

classicI looked them up on the Internet and called the company, they have buses that leave from 3 areas in Long Island, Riverhead, Melville and Ronkonkoma. The prices vary from $12-$20 one way, a competitive price with both the LIRR and the Hampton Jitney. Hampton Luxury Liner a division of Classic coach based out of Bohemia, NY will operate as the Long Island licensee for BoltBus a division of Greyhound. The new bus concept has the support of Islip, Brookhaven and Riverhead towns. I am excited that it is another option for the East End and for areas like Melville and Ronkonkoma areas.

So my friends unfortunately Classic Coach & Luxury Liner are working with Bolt Bus & Greyhound don’t look for any deals to come to the Southfork since the Luxury Liner dominates the Southfork with the Jitney. Your best bet is to park in Riverhead and take either the Jitney or the Bolt if you want to save some extra dollars.

iconI am bummed, it makes sense for me to take the bus if it is just me, but add another person and it is just too expensive. If you do need to drive into the city, check out the ICON APP on the iPhone and Android…special discounts for parking throughout the city.

Greetings Hamptons MouthPiece Readers…I found a website that I had to share with all of you. We all have items in our closet that we no longer wear, so what do we do with those items. We either sell them on Ebay, take them to a consignment store or we give them away to charity.  Are you someone who buys gently used clothing, shoes and accessories from EBay, thrift stores, yard sales, consignment stores and various other places?

I love Ebay but recently I have become bored with this website and I also find that it is getting increasingly difficult to find a deal on Ebay. So where do you go to find gently used designer items at deep discount rates? I found this new website where you can turn your closet into cash and you can find clothing, shoes, accessories at all different price budgets from $15& up. You can find clothing from Forever21, Urban Outfitters, Coach, Michael Kors and much, much more. You list New & gently used fashion for sale, Earn top dollar on your items, Tradesy takes 9%.  You can buy and sell items…check out some of the things you can purchase.

  • Payments are processed securely, and all transactions are protected by the Tradesy Trust Guarantee.
  • When your item sells, you’ll get a shipping kit in the mail. Just drop your item in the bag, and send it off. It’s that easy.
  • Tradesy handles all returns directly, so buyers are protected, and sellers have fewer headaches.
  • After your items sells, you will receive payment directly through paypal.

kitty2Greetings Hamptons Mouthpiece Readers…I have decided to start a column called Random Rants. It is about things that tick me off. If you would like to contribute to this column you are welcomed to do so.

My issue today is about BULLIES….I HATE BULLIES..I hate bullies in school, in the work place, driving, politics, anywhere..When I am encountered with a bully I will immediately take action against the bully and be prepared to fight the fight. This for me includes my family, a cause, a wrong doing a policy, but I am also aware that I cannot fight everything so I will need to choose my battles. I know a bully when I see a bully and I think most people do to as well. (see this article “Effort to fight Bullying”..written by Claire Walla http://sagharboronline.com/sagharborexpress/tag/vanessa-leggard)

We owe it to our children to show them that they can confront life. There will be many test, what they call trials and tribulations. This is where we lead by example. If we show our children that we are afraid to confront the bullies either privately or publicly then our children will be afraid to, but we need to show them how to do it through non-violent means. To often through our inaction we give our children messages that they shouldn’t act. We have to show them that inaction in the face of bad behavior is a recipe for continued bad behavior. They have to STEP UP! Now we can choose to show them through our actions or our words, but we have to show them. Sometimes it is ok to avoid problems and that may be the better course, the better part of valor; but when cornered and you can neither go left or right or back, then they have to face their fears and go forward. You let the chips fall where they may. We have to teach our children to go forward, we have to teach our children to NEVER BE AFRAID.
