The ultimate 4th of July celebration that is sure to go out with a bang….Hamptons Entertaining: Creating Occasions to Remember

150 million hot dogs, 122 million hamburgers and over six million dollars spent in fireworks make up the Fourth of July across the country each year. Independence Day is America’s greatest and proudest holiday. It is the unofficial start of summer where backyard barbeques, great food, great drinks create the backdrop of amazing memories spent with friends and friends. In Annie Falk’s second entertaining and cookbook, Hamptons Entertaining: Creating Occasions to Remember, she celebrates Independence Day at the Sebonack Golf Club with the club’s founder Michael Passcuci and his family, enjoying his Italian take on an All-American holiday.golf1

The Pascucci’s chose to be a little unconventional by stepping into the canvas-like setting of one of America’s favorite pastimes. While keeping the traditional red, white, and blue theme, the Italian family makes sure to fill the table with all of their favorites. From the most luxurious wine placed in rustic wine caddies, to their favorite centerpiece-the bread. The table has the perfect all-American setting for the delectable menu about to be served.sebonac0025

Instead of hot dogs and hamburgers, the menu features items like Jo Pascucci’s Gemelli a La Creole and refreshing Watermelon Gazpacho, finished off with the family-favorite homemade cheesecake. This five-course meal is not your typical Fourth of July menu, but the simplicity of the dishes allows family time to be the main course.

Mavis Staples @ Guild Hall Saturday, August 15 at 8pm
For six decades Mavis Staples has been the solid rock of American music. Alongside the family group she is so identified with, the Staple Singers, Mavis has managed to transform herself as she goes – from the delta-inflected gospel sound she helped create in the 1950s (“Uncloudy Day”), to the engaged protest of the civil rights era (“Freedom Highway”), to a series of chart hits on 1970s pop radio (“I’ll Take You There”), and now to two gospel albums for the 21st century produced by Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy – the Grammy Award-winning You Are Not Alone and the Grammy-nominated One True Vine. Staples is a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Rolling Stone listed her as one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. For more information: www.guildhall.org

Hamptons Happenings Southampton Hospital Celebrates the Opening of The Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart and Stroke Center

Southampton Hospital will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 15th to celebrate the opening of the Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart & Stroke Center and to honor the Gruss’ gift of $5 million to the new facility at the Hospital. Maybe in a few years’ time when the facility is celebrating a momentous anniversary, they could consider some of these hospital anniversary ideas to mark the occasion properly.

The state-of-the-art center consolidates a broad spectrum of sophisticated diagnostic and treatment capabilities with existing cardiovascular programs and services. An advanced endovascular surgical suite features the latest imaging technology ideally suited for endovascular surgery, and many of these procedures and repairs can now be done through minimally invasive techniques. It’s possible that procedures like Uterine Fibroid Embolization may be offered by this suite to those in need of it as it relates to endovascular health issues.

Audrey Gruss, President of the Audrey & Martin Gruss Foundation, said, “Martin and I felt it was important that our local hospital have the capability to conduct stroke and vascular distress intervention. Southampton Hospital is essential to all of us living or vacationing in the East End and we are honored to be part of its quest for excellence.” slideshow_std_h_Southampton-Hospital-Breaks-Ground-for-New-Audrey-and-Martin-Gruss-Heart-and-Stroke-Center8

“It is well-known that the over-50 age group has the highest probability of experiencing a stroke or heart attack,” Audrey continues. “With many of us spending weekends or weeks year-round in Southampton and the East End, we are gratified by this addition, knowing that our family and friends will be able to get timely medical care right in Southampton, if and when they need it. ”

Hospital President and CEO Robert S. Chaloner comments, “We are very grateful to Audrey and Martin Gruss. Getting treatment as quickly as possible is critical to recovery. Our ability to provide sophisticated diagnostics and interventional treatment of stroke and vascular disease will save lives.”
