Greetings Hamptons MouthPiece Readers….You have always been known for your extreme generosity…well your help is desperately needed for our fellow New Yorker’s who have lost everything from Hurricane Irene….see a message below that was sent to me from some pretty amazing people who will be collecting items to take to people in need on Tuesday, September 6th..*********************************************************************
Hurricane Irene has come and gone, and by now, we have mostly recovered. Not so for other communities north of us. Several local families (Falkowskis, Guyers and others) from Bridgehampton, have moved up-state New York, into Schoharie and Middleburgh Counties. From what they are telling us, entire towns, businesses, farms, homes, stores…you name it, have been flooded off the face of the map. Families (many already at or near poverty level) have lost absolutely EVERY possession they had. I just can’t imagine it. They have no communications, and for those who didn’t lose their homes, power is non-existent. A bit of Katrina in our backyard. Many uncounted for and no hope.
OKAY!! SO starting the day after Labor Day, on Sept 6th, a Tuesday, John Falkowski has arranged for a Cargo Bin to be dropped off at the Falkowski farm on 720 Butter Lane, Bridgehampton. COME SEE ME!!! It will be out front, across from the Ross Elementary School (previously The Hampton Day School), north of the train station. This will be a Self-Serve drop off and as soon as the bin is filled, Stephen Mezyneski, a local contractor, has volunteered to truck the container up north. Hopefully a 2nd and 3rd container will also be filled and carted to where it is so needed. The following items are being requested:
Non perishable foods
Pet food
Coffee Makers
Beds, Bedding
Furniture (couches, chairs, tables etc.)
Clothing
Toys/games
Dishes, pots, pans
Toiletries
Please pack things well and label them whenever possible as to size etc. as they will be traveling over bumpy roads for 6 or so hours to their destination. Use your judgment. Just imagine what you would need to get through the day if all was lost. No JUNK please! Donations of money (still be worked out to who will best serve) will also be accepted and turned over to 3 municipalities, one of which is Bleheim (as of 2000 census, its population was 400). WE ARE WORKING ON FINDING THE BEST DESTINATION TO SEND CHECKS. Right now cash is irrelevant.
